    7 Lessons from My First Triathlon

    I recently complete my first Triathlon. I learned a lot from training, racing and having the guts to do something I have never done!

    But here are some of the key lessons that I think will apply in anything that you do in life whether you are in a race or not. Go out there and give something a go! You never know what you will learn!

    Here are some BONUS Lessons:

    • Look up once in a while to see where you are going in life because you may be OFF COURSE! (I started to swim away from everyone for part of the race… losing valuable TIME!)
    • REMOVE RESISTANCE – Having the right equipment makes all the difference!  I only had a hybrid bike and was getting passed  by other TRIATHLETES on ROAD BIKES!  I will definitely need a better bike for the next race!
    • In the video, Lesson #6 was to find someone stronger!  Well, during the running leg of the race, I was pretty much spent… until I found someone that was just ahead of me, who was running at a good pace.  So I started to follow him, one step at a time for the last km.  What a blessing!  He kept me going right till the end, helped pace me and help me finish the race.  He was like a MENTOR in life, someone to help guide you and show you the way.  (In the last 150m, I knew I could overtake him, but rather than running past him, I encouraged him as I ran past him to follow me… and in that last 150 m, I become his PACER, and help him to finish STRONG.  I did not want to beat him, I wanted BOTH of us to finish strong, and I wanted to return the favour for what he did for that last km of the race.  And in the end, we both finished giving it our VERY BEST!)

    I was recently in Broome’s famous Cable Beach with my family.  And as we strolled across the beach with Kaia’s stroller, I found it very difficult to push it through the beautiful SOFT sand!  And it was not until we hit the HARD part of the sand that the stroller became immediately easy to push (the hard sand being part of the sand where the tide was leaving).  And I realized that that is exactly how we have our health habits in life…watch the video and find out about how this relates directly to our health!

    Seeing a Bigger Perspective

    Recently, my family and I travelled to Sydney for a working holiday.  And while I was in Sydney, we decided to visit the Blue Mountains.  If you have never been to Blue Mountains, it is a spectacular sight!  In the video, I tried to show the amazing view of this spectacular place, however, without really being there – you can only sense a part of it.  How is this related to our health?  Do we need to see our daily activities from a bigger perspective once in awhile ? Do we need to pull back and see how our daily activities (healthy or unhealthy) actually affect our overall HEALTH?

    Energy for Life – Revisited

    Last week, the ENERGY for LIFE Semianr was a huge success with over 75 people attending the event!  I have been hearing some amazing stories from people who attended the event who have created massive changes already!  Notably a 15 year old who took action and decided to wake up at 5 am every morning since the seminar so that he can do extra work and help mom around the house by cleaning up the house, doing the chores etc.  He also committed to drinking more water each day and is encouraging his brothers and sister to follow his lead!   (This is from a 15 year old who told me he slept in everyday till late and had no desire to do anything during the day just last week!)  

    The key to success for him (and anyone else…) is that he TOOK ACTION!  So what action did you take after last week?
